바울은 골로새서 2장 2절에서 우리 내적 존재의 두 개의 중요한 기관을 다루고 있습니다. 하나는 마음이고, 하나는 생각입니다. (깨달음이라는 말은 생각을 의미합니다.) 일단 마음이 상처를 받고, 차갑게 되고, 나뉘어지면, 생각이 흩어지고 심지어 대적에 의해 쉽게 공격을 받게 됩니다. 생각이 그러한 상태에 있을 때 그리스도와 하나님의 경륜에 관한 사역의 말씀을 깨달을 수 없게 됩니다.  예를 들어, 만일 나의 생각이 내 마음 안의 어떤 문제로 인해 공격을 받게 되면, 한 형제가 내게 웃으며 인사하지 않는 것만으로도 매우 불쾌하게 될 것입니다. 더 나아가 이 형제가 다른 형제는 점심에 초대하는데, 나는 초대하지 않는다면 나는 심히 괴로울 것입니다. 나는 이 상황에 대해 매우 화가 날지도 모릅니다. 이러한 화는 기질에 의한 것이 아니고, 내 마음 안의 어떤 문제로 인한 것입니다. 나는 내 마음 안에서 존중받거나 존경받고, 어떤 위치를 원할지도 모릅니다. 이로 인해 나는 다른 이들이 내게 기쁘게 인사함으로 존경을 표시해야 한다고 느낄지도 모릅니다. 그러나 만일 내가 마음 안에 문제가 없다면, 어떤 형제가 내게 미소짓지 않고, 어떤 활동에 나를 포함시키지 않는다고 해도 마음 상하지 않을 것입니다.

  In this verse Paul deals with two crucial organs of our inner being: the heart and the mind. (The word understanding implies the mind.) Once the heart has been hurt and has become cold and divided, it is easy for the mind to be distracted or even attacked by the enemy. When the mind is in such a condition, it cannot understand the word that is ministered concerning Christ and God's economy. For example, if my mind is under attack because of a problem in my heart, I may be very displeased if a brother does not greet me with a smile. I may be further troubled if this same brother invites another brother to lunch with him, but does not invite me. I may become quite angry over the situation. This anger is not caused by temper; it is caused by the problem in my heart. In my heart I may desire respect, honor, and position. This may cause me to feel that others should show respect for me by greeting me in a pleasant way. However, if I have no problem in my heart, I shall not be troubled if a brother does not smile at me or does not include me in a certain activity.
