어떤 그리스도인들은 자신들이 천사처럼 행동해야 한다고 생각합니다. 그들은 하늘에 속한 존재처럼 살려고 애씁니다. 하나님이 보시기에 이런 종류의 생활은 비정상적인 것입니다. 그분은 자신의 자녀들이 천사들을 흉내내길 원하지 않으십니다. 오히려 그분은 그들이 가장 인간적인 것을 원하십니다. 교회의 모든 지체들은 참된 인성을 가져야 합니다. 이런 까닭에 교회를 다루고 있는 책인 에베소서는 각종 인간관계들-아내와 남편, 자녀와 부모, 종과 상전과의 관계-을 다루고 있습니다. 합당한 교회생활을 하려면, 합당한 인간생활을 해야 합니다. 우리가 영접하고 얻은 그리스도는 천사나 혹은 어떤 종류의 하늘에 속한 존재가 아니라 "하나님-사람"입니다. 그분이 우리를 위해 자신을 주신 것은 사람으로서 육신 안에서였습니다. 더욱이 그분이 우리의 상황을 체휼하실 수 있고 우리의 필요를 만족시킬 수 있는 것은 사람으로서입니다. 그분은 우리와 같이 되시기 위해 인성을 입으셨습니다. 이제 그분은 우리를 통하여 표현되시기 위해 우리 안에서 우리의 생명과 인격으로 살고 계십니다. 어떤 자매가 남편에게 순종하는 데 있어서 그리스도를 자기의 인격으로 취한다면 그녀의 순종은 영광스러울 것이며 그녀 안에서부터 살아 표현된 그리스도의 실제가 충만할 것입니다. 마찬가지로 어떤 형제가 아내를 사랑하는데 그리스도를 자기 인격으로 취한다면 아내에 대한 그의 사랑 안에 그리스도가 표현될 것입니다. 그러한 그리스도의 표현이 가능한 것은 "하나님-사람"이신 그분 자신을 우리에게 주셨기 때문입니다.

 Some Christians think that they should behave as if they were angels. They try to live like heavenly beings. In the eyes of God, this kind of living is abnormal. He does not want His children to imitate angels; on the contrary, He wants them to be very human. All the members of the church should have a genuine humanity. For this reason, Ephesians, a book dealing with the church, covers various human relationships: the relationship between wife and husband, between children and parents, between servants and masters. In order to have a proper church life, we must have a proper human life. The very Christ we have received and gained is not an angel or some kind of heavenly being, but a God-man. It was as a man in the flesh that He gave Himself up for us. Furthermore, it is as a man that He is able to fit into our situation and meet our need. He has put on human nature in order to be like us. Now He lives in us as our life and as our person to be manifested from within us. When a sister takes Christ as her person in submitting to her husband, her submission will be glorious, full of the reality of Christ lived out from within her. Likewise, when a brother takes Christ as his person in loving his wife, Christ will be expressed in his love for her. Such a manifestation of Christ is possible because as the God-man He gave Himself up for us.
